Naples taught us that elegance isn't worn, it's carried, lightly. A jacket that falls softly on the shoulders, linen moving in the breeze of the gulf, a colour chosen the way you choose a word. Aevora was born from this way of seeing.
1351
As early as the fourteenth century, the tailors of Naples were gathered in a confraternity, and over the centuries the craft became part of the city's identity. In 1807 the city counted one tailor for every hundred and fifty inhabitants.
The 18th century
In the eighteenth century Naples was one of the largest cities in Europe and one of the best-loved stops on the Grand Tour: travellers came from across the continent for the gulf, Vesuvius and the excavations at Herculaneum and Pompeii. Goethe, who visited in 1787, described it as a paradise.
The 1930s
In the 1930s Neapolitan tailors rethought the English-style jacket for the climate of the gulf: no padding, little or no lining, and a shoulder set like a shirt's, the spalla a camicia, with its small gathers. The breast pocket took on the curved shape of a little boat, the barchetta.
By hand
In the Neapolitan tradition many finishes are still done by hand: buttonholes, lapel edges, pockets, the setting of the sleeve. A bespoke suit takes dozens of hours of work. It is this love of detail that we look for in every piece we choose.
The light
The humid heat of the gulf taught people to dress light: linen, silk, cool wools, colours borrowed from stone, sand and sea. Our taste grows from this light: soft pieces, easy to pair, carrying the names of Naples, its winds, its stone and its traditions.
